At the Edge of Light and Reflection | Anna Oláh’s Reflective Universe at Hybridart Space

From early November, Hybridart Space is immersed in a singular glow: Anna Oláh’s new exhibition engages viewers both visually and conceptually, creating an atmosphere that feels at once intimate and transcendental through the interplay of light, mirrors and self-reflection.

The founder of the ANNA AMÉLIE brand has now carried her iconic one-line drawings into an entirely new medium. The figures etched onto mirrored surfaces seem to reflect not only the surrounding space, but also the viewer’s inner world. Aligned with curator and art director Zita Pósalaky’s vision, the exhibition subtly responds to the characteristics of the gallery itself: here, light and reflection are not mere scenery but active agents prompting an ongoing dialogue between space and spectator. The exhibition draws on a contemporary interpretation of the Apollo myth. The figure of the god of light and knowledge appears both as inspiration and metaphor: sunlight as the foundation of life, as an all-pervasive and all-revealing force. Oláh translates this idea into her distinct visual language, where light becomes not only an aesthetic element but also an experience – at times unsettling – that highlights the fragility of human harmony.

The Mirrors series forms the core of the exhibition. The familiar motifs of the delicate yet striking one-line drawings take on entirely new meaning in this context. In classical Greek thought, the mirror was a gateway to self-knowledge; in Oláh’s interpretation, it fulfills a similar role. The viewer sees not only the drawn forms but also their own reflection, becoming part of the work itself. This intimate gesture of self-reflection emerges as one of the exhibition’s most defining moments. The second unit, the Travel Sketches series, speaks in a much softer tone. These small watercolours evoke fragments of memories dissolved in light: Mediterranean spaces, gestures, atmospheres, fleeting impressions of time. Here, light is not overwhelming but gentle and human – as if the viewer were holding a distant summer in their hands.

“When the line begins, it runs alongside our thoughts,” says the artist, and this sensation indeed permeates the entire exhibition. It unfolds as a kind of journey: from the abstraction of divine light toward the intimacy of human experience. Light and Mirror is on view at the Hybridart Space gallery until November 21 (Wednesday–Thursday–Friday, 12:00–18:00). Those who enter may find a moment to pause – and perhaps rediscover an inner brightness that finds less and less space to shine amid the reflections of everyday life.
